It’s been a while since I posted an update for the iRule Editor so I figured I’d spend some time this week polishing off some of the bugs and enhancements reported on the iRule Editor forum over the past year or so.
So, I can go on and on about the history, but I figure you all just want to bypass that and go straight to what’s been fixed/added since the last version. We’ll here’s what I’ve got for you in the latest v0.10.0.0 distribution that I released today.
FIX: Hyperlink click crashes iRule Editor
This was reported in this thread titled iRule...

I've been working on this for a while but never got around to finishing it. Lori's post from today reminded me of my "unfinished" work so I dug it up and brought it back to life. A while back, I wrote a Twitter Proxy for BIG-IP's that used the iControl event API to listen of configuration change events to occur and then post those events to a pre-configured Twitter account. A longer time ago, I wrote a IM bot that allowed you to "chat" with your BIG-IP but that relied on a 3rd party service that is no longer...

This just came across the wire: The UK based website ITPRO just published the first public review of F5's VIPRION On-Demand Application Delivery Controller. Let's see how it fared: Rating: 5 out of 6 stars Price: £83000 "Targeting enterprises and service providers, the Viprion offers a range of features suited to those looking for levels of resilience, scalability and performance that standard appliance based solutions can’t deliver." "A unique feature of the Viprion is its ability to present a single virtual server with massive resources behind it as it can use all blades. As new blades are added they...

A while ago I wrote a little app that listened to the BIG-IP for status change notifications and logged them to disk. I showed this to Robert Scoble and the Channel 9 crew when they visited the F5 headquarters and he asked if he could get those results in his RSS reader. I answered that by writing the BigipBlogging sample that I submitted to the DevCentral CodeShare I'm an early adopter in most web based tools so naturally I was a early member on Twitter. Last year I blogged about an extension to the original program that...

I found out about this at our partner conference earlier this week and it looks like Symphonic's TrueView ADC Edition has made it's way out into the wild. From the press sheet: Symphoniq, in conjunction with F5, has created a unique monitoring solution to leverage your existing Application Deliver Controller (ADC) infrastructure to give you detailed, actionable insight into how the infrastructure is running, from your end user's perspective. TrueView, ADC Edition takes advantage of Symphoniq's TrueView technology to measure real end-user response times, and leverages F5's iRules and iControl technologies to seamlessly integrate with your infrastructure to...

Today I'm proud to announce the arrival of our newest DevCentral Labs project: pyControl! For those who don't know, the Python here is not referring to the snake, nor is it referencing the "Meaning of Life guys". In this case, its' the dynamic object-oriented programming language. So, what is pyControl? Well, it's a native Python library that integrates with F5's iControl Management API. With the support for Python, we are ever expanding our base of client platforms to ease the frustrations of management and reporting on your network infrastructure. Whether it's perl, PowerShell, Java, .Net, or Python, we've...

It's been a while since the last version of the SDK has been released and it looks like it's that time again. So, whip out your zip program, and head on over to the iControl downloads page and be the first one on your block to get your hands on the latest and greatest iControl SDK. Version 9.6.0 is a roll up of all previous upgrades and supports all previous versions of BIG-IP. What goodies can you expect to find in the SDK? Well, for starters, ASM and WA have made their debuts. LTConfig is the place to...

Jeff, Colin and I just finished up a set of training sessions to our new sales and SE folks about all the goodness that is DevCentral, iRules, and iControl. We had an hour and a half and the "plan" was 30 minutes DevCentral (Jeff), 30 minutes iRules (Colin) and 30 minutes iControl (me). Lesson learned: Jeff goes last from now on! Jeff rounded up his talk a little over the one hour mark, Colin sped his up to 20 minutes, which left me with 6 minutes to cover the iRule Editor and iControl. Luckily the folks opted to...

After many hours of hard work by the newest member of our team, The F5 DevCentral Advanced Design and Config Wiki went live this morning! To quote the site:
F5 products make it possible for you to build and manage very complex networks addressing an endless variety of application delivery and business requirements. This wiki is intended to support those complexities by providing samples of profiles, monitors, templates and common traffic management architectures, explaining the features required to implement them, and giving you tips on how to configure our products to match your application delivery requirements.
Enjoy everyone, and GREAT job Deb!

When we shipped DC4, we started looking at Windows PowerShell and how we could build some integration points with our products. The first pass was a set of PowerShell script files that we introduced in the PowerShell Labs section of DevCentral. No soon after we posted them, the requests started pouring in on when we would provide some native PowerShell CmdLets in addition to the function scripts.
Well, I spent a little bit of time working some out and whipped out a good first rough draft. I've been holding on to these for a while now but figured they would...

In the last few months, I've been focused on Microsoft Technologies such as PowerShell, Windows Mobile, MOM, and most recently the iControl Assembly written in C# with Microsoft VisualStudio.
I've never been a professional Java developer so I never really got into extending the network in the java arena. Sure, I wrote a bunch of java samples to include with the iControl SDK, but those were nothing more than a bunch of command line scripts. Luckily for all of you, we now have Don on our team and he has started on some pretty cool Java related projects.
So, I got to thinking......

One of the major social aspects of Mix this year was interacting with everyone via Twitter. For those who haven't heard about it (where have you been), here's an excerpt from it's Wikipedia page:
Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to send "updates" (text-based posts, up to 140 characters long) via SMS, instant messaging, the Twitter website, or an application such as Twitterrific. Twitter was founded in October 2006 by San Francisco start-up company Obvious Corp.
Updates are displayed on the user's profile page and also instantly delivered to other users who have signed up to receive...
