Social Media ABC's - R is for Remixing
posted on Wednesday, October 08, 2008 8:07 AM

socialmedia Welcome to my series of blog posts on the ABC's of Social Media, a tool that you can use to make you more "hip" in the world of Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn (just to name a few).  Today's letter is "R".  "R" brings us Readiness, Regsitration, Roles, and RSS but I'm opting for social media's answer to the question: Will it blend?  The word for today is "Remixing"

Remixing

Pronounced: KRee-miks-ing

Social media offers the possibility of taking different items of content, identified by tags and published through feeds, and combining them in different ways. You can do this with other people's content if they add an appropriate copyright license.

Also known as a mashup, this can be in the form of a web application that combines data from more than one source into a single integrated tool; an example is the use of cartographic data from Google Maps to add location information to real-estate data, thereby creating a new and distinct web service that was not only originally provided by either source.
