Welcome to my series of blog posts on the ABC's of Social Media, a tool that you can use to make you more "hip" in the world of Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn (just to name a few). Today's letter is "Z". There aren't many Z words directly relating to Social Media but I think I've found one that actually applies to me. Are you one of those who will join any and all Social Media services just because everyone else is? Then, like I, you are a Social Media Zombie. "Z" is for Zombie Zombie Pronounced: Zom-bee It seems there are dozens of new social media sites popping up daily. In fact, there are so many of them that it's really hard to keep up. Roger Harris asks "Are you a social media zombie". I didn't think of myself in that way but in retrospect I think I actually am. I can actually remember the day that it came to me that I have a problem. It was the day I signed up for the cross-posting service Ping.fm. That site is great in that it will allow you to post to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc from a single webform. The fact that I was looking for this kind of service should have been a good indicator. But what really hit me was when I went to configure all the services and realized I had so many accounts setup. A brief list includes: Twitter, Facebook, Plurk, Pownce, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Indeti.ca, Brightkite, FriendFeed, Jaiku, Plaxo, hi5, Mashable, and Delicious. Then I realized that I pretty much sign up for any and all new sites I hear about just because everyone else is. So world, I admit it, I am Social Media Zombie! What about you?
