We all have our favourite browsers for one reason or another and if you're a geek like me you might even have 3 browsers or more installed.  With all the new browsers being launched we are being bombarded with statistics about which one is faster and which one has the coolest new features.  If you were to rank the browser versions in terms of worldwide popularity how would you rank them - go ahead take a minute to write down your top 3 I'll wait.

The people over at StatCounter provide global statistics on the market share of various browsers and versions (not to mention loads of other stats as well).  What's nice is that you can slice and dice the information in a variety of ways by month, week, country, etc.  I took a look at the browser version stats from March 1st through today (April 2nd) on a worldwide.  Are you surprised by the results below?

On a worldwide basis IE 7 has a fairly significant lead over Firefox 3 and IE 6 is the third most popular browser.  If we change the stats to look only at Europe IE 7's lead drops significantly compared to Firefox.  It looks like next month Firefox 3 may actually surpass IE, at least in Europe.

Gravatar I like http://www.statowl.com much more! A ton more reports, ability to drill-down to versions/sub-versions, you can run filters over all reports and they have a much wider array of charts and graphs.
