DevCentral Weekly Roundup Episode 43 - Plus One

Deb is Stacking iRules (not to be confused with stacking cups), Joe is Streaming Profiles, and Colin is fixin WSDLs. in this week's Tech Tips.
In the blogs, Colin gives us his favorite 20LoL and Don goes over Social Networking and Social Networking.
Joe goes over some forum posts on the Notification API, as well as calling iControl methods on older products as well as Regex's in iRules.
GTM is highlighted in the wikis with a callout for whereis and a dose of HTTP and TCP collect for good measure.
We finish things up with video postings on Message Broker Resiliency, Active Active Database Load Balancing, and Configuring BIG-IP WebAccelerator.

DevCentral Weekly Roundup Episode 39 - Konnichiwa

Joe and Jeff call in from Tokyo discussing the first DevCentral Japan user group meeting, the F5 Japan partner conference, the awesomeness that is the Japan Marketing team, and Sumo wagering.
Deb and Colin recap this weeks internal meetings with iRules and iControl experts. The consensus is that iControl is "The Next iRules".
Don goes over automation and iC2I. His latest article is on the simplified way to create a virtual server. Deb's tech tip this week was on rewriting redirects and Colin's was on Non-English DNS requests.
Colin has been Ranting about iRules, and LoL-ing his 20 again.
And in the forums, Don mentions blacklisting certificate lists and Deb talks about Load Balancing only to one peer, Remote logging from mutliple LTM's to the same TMM, and Monitoring a windows service.

DevCentral Weekly Roundup Episode 38 - Pwned

In the Tech Tips, Joe is Disabling Node Servers, Colin is Selectively auth'ing Client Certs, Don is Done dumping, and Lori is iControlling her Ajax.
Forum posts of note cover LB to only one peer if computer is down and Load Balancing Corba.
Colin is blogging about his non-existent iPhone, Don says New Glarus and Modeling don't mix, Joe is Networking his ABC's with WAN, and Jeff points out the top contributors.
In the Wiki, The ProxyPass iRule continues to gain attention and Deb is rocking on the documentation.
In media, Don has completely audio-i-fied iC2I, Deb and Colin POTW'ed Action on Service Down, and Joe continued the weeks Daily News.
Jeff, as usual, got the last word in regarding his and Joe's trip to Tokyo next week for a DevCentral user group meeting and partner conference.

DevCentral Weekly Roundup Episode 37 - Rollin Twenties

In the Tech Tips, Deb is covering iRule Interference; Don is Virtually Dumping and iRule'ing virtuals; Colin is Encrypting Arrays, and Joe is Automating Licenses.
Colin is blogging about free MP3s and LoL'ing at his 20 lines; Don is Deep in the Hoopla and thinking about What a Wonderful World it would be; Joe is Teeing his Tickles, U'ing his URLs, and Vee-ing his VIPs; and Jeff is pondering Golf over Bowling balls.

DevCentral Weekly Roundup Episode 35 - Identity Crisis

In the tech tips this week, Joe is digging into the database, don is determining effects if iRule changes, Colin is scanning, and Deb exposed GTM's identity crisis.
Joe comments on some forum posts about adding VLAN's with pyControl, renaming virtuals, and an iRule Editor bug. Don chimes in on new users, redirects, and pawning off work to Deb and Colin.
In the blogs, Joe is ABC'ing with Nagle's algorithm and the SEADUG-1 recap. Jeff doesn't talk about virtualization. Colin is adding to his 20LoL's and comments on Captchas and Kittens. And Deb mentions "log"'s increased message size limit. Somehow Joe missed Don's contributions this week, be on the lookout next week.
In the wikis we have a new DNS Flood Protection and matchclass updates.
In the media front, Joe comments on the new show the DevCentral Daily and Colin and Deb are pushing DCTVPOTW with the new episode covering Changing LB Target Mid-Connection.
Jeff will be at Interop next week, twitter him and he might buy you a drink and a $3.99 steak and lobster dinner.

DevCentral Weekly Roundup Episode 34 - NyQuil Induced Genius

In the tech tips this week, Colin talks about Polymorphism, Joe does some Performance Graphing, and Deb plays the Dueling Timeouts.

Jeff recaps the Intervew with F5's Renny Shen from the SNW conference introducing the concept of DeDuplication.

DevCentral Weekly Roundup Episode 20 - 50 Percent

Joe opens things up by discussing his FTP Proxy Tech tip and his subsequent journey into the realms of the Wumpus (believed to be the first game written in the iRule language).
Warren then gives a rundown on F5's direction on network management. He discusses past products including SEE-IT, ISMan, and Enterprise Manager (EM) and where we are going with our future product ControlPoint (Joe wonders whey it wasn't named "CP"). He discusses features like network maps, capacity planning, custom reporting, and workflow. Warren then defines how we solve the "Mean Time to Innocence(TM)" problem among other frequently reported customer issues regarding management.

DevCentral Weekly Roundup Episode 19 - Oracle and Performance Calculations

Jeff is out "Not buying us iPhones" on the high seas and Colin is getting some rest.
Don published the Application Ready Network for Oracle Applications site on DevCentral - feature packed with deployment guides, forums, and content - if you can get to it B-). He's wrapping up his blackberry app, writing this weeks tech tip, and getting ready for Oracle OpenWorld next week.
F5 was voted top of 4 categories for Northwest Jobs - Go F5!
The team welcomes Pete Silva to the DevCentral bloggers.
Deb's tech tip this week was on "Evaluating iRule Performance" with a spreadsheet for helping with performance calculations. Joe hints at this being included in the iRule Editor.
Joe says to make sure to listen to the audio version of the "If and Expressions" tech tip. Deb says "Bookmark it, don't memorize it".

DevCentral Weekly Roundup Episode 18 - ISC

Jeff is "Double Berried" this week (with Chocolaty Goodness).
If you've been wondering where we've been, The DevCentral Team is back from the F5 International Sales Conference held last week in sunny Palm Springs, CA. All of the team members had a full speaking gig during the show.
Deb and Jeff, after working their way through equipment "malfunctions", talked about Applications De-Mystified.
Don felt like a "boy toy" during his and Lori's talk on SOA and Web 2.0.
Colin and Joe discussed iRules, iControl, and Community.
Don and Deb said that Lori and Jeff were good at "borrowing content" from their co-presenters.
The team then talks about some games played during the sessions including a "Virtual Human Network" and "Fill in the blanks with DevCentral".
The podcast ended up with an overview of a day in the life of a conference attendee including moshing to Cheap Trick.

DevCentral Weekly Roundup Episode 17 - The Phones Are Ringing

Jeff is still waiting for the phone to ring and Colin is getting good at Origami Cranes.
Joe talks about his iControl 101 article on Language Options. Deb thinks iControl is under-utilized and Joe talks about the issues with "teaching" iControl.

DevCentral Weekly Roundup Episode 15 - 101

The F5 Salmon in the Red Bull Soapbox Derby will be racing this Saturday in Freemont, WA. Colin will be there with camera in hand. Colin has some interviews up from his recent trip to Europe. Deb talks about her tech tip on Persisting Across Virtual Servers. Lori had a great blog post about Clustering vs. Load Balancing. And while Joe is working on "Audio-izing" the tech tips, Deb can't stop dreaming about them.
The team talks about the inspiration of the 101 series as well as details about the iRules Security series, iRules Optimization, and iControl. They drill into HTTP Method/Cross Site Tracing and Avoiding Path Traversal and Masking Application Platforms as well as the 1st class on iRules Optimization. Jeff calls out for video tutorials to go along with the tech tips.
There's a lot of excitement going on Advanced Design and Config (first ASCII diagram) . Deb's thinking about a 101 series on ASCII-Art network diagrams. Joe offers a T-Shirt to whomever can post an ASCII version of a BIG-IP in the forums. Colin throws in his first attempt.
Don (with Echo) joins in for the last minute of the podcast and we somehow get Lori to commit to joining us next week.

DevCentral Weekly Roundup Episode 13 - The DataCenter 2010

Jeff introduces the gang. Colin points out how folks have been excited about new iRule Editor with support of Admin Partitions. Jeff talks about the new Open Performance Testing Initiative section of DevCentral. The team calls out for vendors to participate and for users to submit their comments and ideas about the performance test setup. Joe plugs his video tutorial on the admin partition support and his blog post about using FirePass to help publish it. Just alludes to an upcoming release of the FirePass Client API SDK. Colin recaps his use of FirePass from a train. Just talks about the new iTunes Podcasts for Video based Tech Tips as well as how this podcast got someone to come work for F5. If there are any iPhone users out there listening to this on their iPhone, let us know. Jeff comments awesome an iPhone can be for wardriving. Don says Lori's latest blog post is good reading.
Then the group talks about challenges with the DataCenter of 2010 (3 years may seem like a short time, but it's a long time in tech years). Jeff points that power usage by DataCenters is larger than all of TV's in the US. Colin points out that Power and Energy consumption will be a primary factor and things that companies are physically locating closer to power sources like dams due to lower costs.

The one lesson he learned was to not talk to a cab driver in English next time. Joe is looking for any Maui customers/partners needing a good DevCentral overview. Joe talks way too long but covers some interesting things including a couple of major customer visits (including the DevCentral Japan Team). Joe notices a uprising of iControl based solutions mainly targeted at making the network more dynamic in real-time including both LTM and GTM. He mentions an upcoming release of the iRule Editor (with Partition support!) - even Joe doesn't know all the iControl methods. He gives an overview of his iRule Ninja tech tip series. He points to some forum posts on "How to install iControl", why newbie posts are perfectly welcome, how the CACHE::priority command works, how to do a wildcard cache eviction with iControl, how to get the VPN Tray client working in Vista.

DevCentral Weekly Roundup Episode 8 - Extensibility

Jeff talks about his trip last week to the F5 partner conference in Chicago. He gives some advice to Everclear about teasing the audience. He alludes to an upcoming "Question of the Week" forum and the eminent rising of F5 User Groups and how we are going to help facilitate those groups. Joe volunteers his house for a Sammamish, WA user group.
Don mentions his blog readership is WAY up after the release of the Java Wrappers for iControl Labs project. He'll likely move on to finalize the Blackberry Java iControl app (to manipulate your BIG-IP from your BlackBerry) in the coming weeks. He said he'd be done by next week - right Don???
Joe points to the latest WebAccelerator product release and why it's so awesome. He found a new iControl watch that everyone should buy just because Timex was smart enough to call it iControl. He mentions a fix to the Custom Reporting with iRules Tech Tip. He also talks about the increase in customer/partner interest in automating GTM with iControl. He then refers to the power outage last week in San Francisco (which he misstated as Los Angeles) and how if those companies had GTM, the crisis could have been avoided. He finishes with his iRule Editor tip of the week on how to use the Editor to profile your iRule.
Jeff gives one last update on the Partner Conference Party and how certain things that happen on the road need to stay on the road...

DevCentral Weekly Roundup Episode 7 - Partner Conference and Documentation

Colin is off sipping Mai Tais talking about iRules at our F5 Partner/Reseller conference in Chicago.
Jeff recaps his first day at the conference mentioning the flaky wireless network as well as Joe Skorupa's talk about regulatory issues with data centralization and the dramatic increase in round trips per page request in current web applications.
Joe mentions a blog post he read about how F5 "re-won" a customer.
Deb talks about recent forum activity on handling SFTP traffic, GTM fallback based on DNS server, modifying SNMP community strings with EM templates, and her recent updates to the iRule persist wiki page.
Joe recaps his latest documentation rampage including an iControl SDK walkthrough, Getting started with iControl v9, Traffic Generation with the iRule Editor, and Application Request Parsing.
The team then discusses several TCL based resources on the web. The TCL Reference at SourceForge, A TCL Tutorial, A TCL Tutor, ActiveTCL, and the iRule Editor.
Don has finished up his iRules Java Wrapper documentation (all 31 pages of it) and hints that the Labs site should be live next week. Jeff even volunteered to load up Eclipse to try it out (if, that is, he can find his PowerPoint to Java translator).

DevCentral Weekly Roundup Episode 6 - Best Practices

Colin recaps our meeting with a DevCentral users on Thursday and discusses feedback on how we should work on "Best Practices" documents and the team talks about how we can help in that area.
Jeff points to some "Must Read Content" that Colin recently wrote. He throws a shoutout to DC user Citizen Elah for his recent contributions. He then talks about the realities and disappointment of app and network teams not communicating.
Joe throws some kudos to DC user aherrman for contributing source changes for the iRule Editor. He discusses some new possible features with the Editor such as profiling enhancements and VIP Gauge reporting. Jeff notes that he wants this feature added. He finishes with his iRule Editor tip of the week.
Don is finishing up the Java wrappers for iControl and discusses his "Best Practices" regarding documenting development projects. He also wonders about the millions of users who are reading our latest newsletter and how they are being conjured up.
Deb discusses using EM Templates to deploy multiple instances of the same iRule and specifically about a slick solution to global variable name collision. Citizen Elah receives his second shoutout for his contribution of the GTM Deployment Prescriptive Architecture.
Jeff finishes up referencing Dan's post about "Where have you used an SSL VPN" and alludes to an new "Question of the Week" feature of DC.
