 Technically Accurate

Our great community at DevCentral sometimes gets so focused on the technology that we miss the greater picture of our jobs. ComputerWorld's Thomas Hoffman has an interview with John M. McKee wherein they discuss the dos and don'ts of a techie career.

Frankly, these are good things to remember, and on a daily basis when we are faced with choices like "do I work through lunch to finish this or can it wait?" we forget that we're in a larger environment that can have long-term impacts.

My favorite? Probably 4. Confusing efficiency with effectiveness. Lots of people fall into that trap. But 6. Knowing all the answers. is another common mistake.

Most of you (note I did not include myself in that one ;-) ) probably fall for 9. Failing to self-promote. Let's talk basic turkey here, if no one knows you're doing the right things at the right times and contributing to the success of your organization, there's a problem.

All in all a good read.

Now back to work so I have something to self-promote about...
