Realizing the ability to transparently migrate big data from one location to another may seem like it would cause some disruption, but with F5 Data Solutions products new support for EMC Atmos organizations can automatically, securely, and non-disruptively move data from file-based storage platforms to EMC Atmos, accelerating both public and private cloud deployments so organizations can more quickly realize the benefits of cloud storage. #vcmp #interop If a network can’t go virtual, then virtual must come to the network.  There has been a great deal of prediction that the always nebulous “network” is the next piece of the data center to go “virtual.” There’s several reasons for such predictions, although a few key concepts tend to be reiterated regardless of who may be prognosticating. What organizations are demanding from the network is flexibility; flexibility of provisioning, of architecture and in supporting diverse business and operational requirements. That flexibility naturally leans toward a virtualized solution because of the traditional inflexibility of networking-based hardware. While networking-based...

#vcmp #interop As enterprises grow and expand their use of virtualization while trying to manage explosive data growth, so too must their infrastructure. In the past, organizations are traditionally segmented into “sizes” by number of employees it has. But with the explosive growth of data caused by natural growth, new devices, and even the use of new standards such as HTML5, we may need to start looking at alternative ways of determining just what “size” an organization may be. “SMBs have caught up to their large enterprise brethren in recognizing that their data is the lifeblood of their companies.” and...

There’s no reason to sacrifice security for high-availability, or vice-versa. On March 31, VeriSign announced that the top-level domain for .com—the Internet’s largest domain with more than 90 million domain name registrations worldwide—now supports DNS Security Extensions. With this development, all major generic top-level domains (.org, .edu, .net, and .gov) support DNSSEC, signifying that the broader DNSSEC infrastructure is ready for production. Organizations seeking to take advantage of DNSSEC to protect their critical DNS infrastructure, however, may find that it isn’t as simple as flicking a switch – unless you’ve got the right infrastructure. Collaboration is critical component of successful private cloud computing implementations Many of the cost savings calculations involving cloud computing revolve directly around the cost of resources. A public cloud computing model is able to achieve these cost savings through economy of scale. For private cloud computing implementations, however, the cost savings so closely associated with cloud computing are rarely found through economy of scale at the resource level, but are instead realized through the economy of scale of people and processes; through automation and orchestration of operational processes that ultimately not only reduce operational costs both hard and soft, but...

Technology workers are probably one of the most difficult employees to motivate and keep productive.  It’s the nature of the work and the people.  Many technologists simply aren’t motivated with extrinsic rewards and generating intrinsic motivation is generally beyond the ability of an employer or manager.  The best that you can hope to do is to eliminate de-motivating behavior and provide the opportunity for the technologists internal passion to flourish and bloom. When almost your entire organization is built of these technology personas, it is exceptionally difficult to maintain a culture and atmosphere that makes this possible. ...

Virtualization has provided a significant boon to enterprise data center operations.  Not only has OS virtualization enabled organizations to consolidate and curb the growth of server hardware, but provided a means to reduce power and cooling costs that had become a major component of operating expense.  It has also increased the efficiency of enterprise IT, giving them the ability to provision new servers in minutes instead of weeks or months.  Virtualization is certainly here to stay.
