Griffith University is one of Australia’s largest higher education institution with an enrolment of more than 37,000 students from 122 countries, and a teaching staff of 3,500. Founded in 1975, the university has five campuses across three cities in Australia. Griffith University is regarded as one of Australia's most innovative tertiary institutions, and one of its key initiatives is the development of its electronic learning facilities. However, the university faced application performance and availability issues, which included PeopleSoft applications. They required more advanced traffic management capabilities than its previous load balancer offered. By implementing F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager, Griffith University is able to improve application performance, eliminate downtime, and decrease costs in the data centre.
“We chose F5 BIG-IP LM for numerous reasons. The most important one was that it enabled easy management of load balancing, greatly reducing application downtime.”
Bruce Williams, Acting Manager of Network and Communication Services, Griffith University
Customized Network Management– With the F5 solution, the networking team is able to write custom probes to see if any individual application, including PeopleSoft, or device is running. Network management was made easy with the BIG-IP LTM point-and-click interface.
Zero Downtime –BIG-IP LTM enables the input of critical application patches with zero downtime, providing continuous reliability and seamless network transition such the current migration of its Intranet from legacy systems to a new content management platform.
Cost and Time Savings – 20X savings on time and money to renew SSL certificates, plus savings made possible by leveraging BIG IP-LTM to compress data and free up servers.
