If you haven't noticed already, there are lost of folks at F5 that commute to work via bicycle as much as possible. And, why not? F5 is very supportive of this, Seattle is rated as one of the best cycling cities in the US, and it's a healthy and fun way to commute. In fact, around 50 F5 employees are participating in the Group Health Commute Challenge during the month of May. As part of this event, Starbucks sponsored the "Bike to Work Rally and Mass Bike Ride" today. It's pretty cool to see so many people choosing this alternative means of transportation.

I don't ride to work as much as I would prefer but when it do, I always see things from a fresh perspective. The obvious is that as car drivers, we could all do a better job of keeping an eye out for cyclists. Each time I ride, it seems there is a close call or potental "door-prize". Today was particularly entertaining though. As I crossed the Ballard Bridge (which includes a very narrow sidewalk), I got stuck behind another cyclist who was riding at a leisurely pace. You know when you sense something is odd or feels slightly out of place? Well... something was... and it wasn't the wobbly, out of true rear-wheel on this guy's bike. He was actually smoking a cigarette!

Priceless... a little exercise and a smoke! I guess that's a somewhat different perspective on fitness but not necessarily "fresh". Oh the days when I wish I had a camera phone instead of my Blackberry...
