We'll it's back to work after the winter break. I'm glad to say I was able to hit the slopes at least once. My son and I spent an afternoon last week at Snoqualmie Pass just outside of Seattle. We missed the entire season last year due to lack of snow so it's very refreshing to see the amount of snow this early. We didn't know what to expect as far as congestion, but were very pleased when we arrived to a half-full parking lot. We didn't have to wait more than 3 minutes on any of the lifts!

My son is 9 and is way better than I am and just about killed me on one of the black diamonds. Then when we got to the top of one of the easier lifts, we saw a pathway with a big banner stating:

"Kids Fun Zone - Adventure Area"

My son said, "Dad, let's go in there it looks fun!". I figured that since it was a kids area, it should be no problem for me. Boy was I wrong... Dylan was laughing so hard when I took lost control into a drift and wiped out. I got the last laugh when we were crossing between two lifts in some ungroomed area and he wasn't going fast enough. He stopped in about a foot of snow and got stuck and then lost one of his skis when trying to walk through it. Then when looking for his buried ski, he lost his balance and took a face plant and looked up at me with a snowman's face with only his goggles visible - man I wish I had brought my camera!

I'm so glad that I can share these types of experieces with my kids. I didn't do a lot of things like this with my father and I hope that my kids can someday look back on their childhood with fond memories of our times together.

Here's to a great ski season here in Seattle!
