I was on vacation when the Paris Roubaix race took place. I was rooting for George to win this after being so close last year. Unfortunately for him it was not to be. His handlebar stem snapped leaving him helplessly drifting across the road until he hit the dirt less than 50km from the finish. Velonews has it in their video highlights of the race. Up until that point he was doing really well. That's one of those equipment failures that you don't want to happen (and can't think about too much) especially on a descent. Assuming that there wasn't a manufacturing defect in Hincapie's part that broke, the failure really shows that chasing every gram of weight savings reaches a point of diminishing and potentially painful returns.
