First of all, no, this is not a news years resolution post about quitting coffee...

About a year and a half ago, I made a drastic change in my life: I cut out caffeine - completely. I lasted about 6 months completely caffeine free (no coffee, sodas, etc.). Man, was it a tough first month. I'd been drinking a cup or two every day for as long as I can remember and when I'd go a day without I'd get severe withdrawals including some seriously mean migraines.

But, being in Seattle, I just don't think it's possible to go without a dose of java once in a while - what with passing a Starbucks, Tullys, or whatever every other block. Plus, I really like the taste of coffee and I never could get the kick of drinking hot teas and didn't want the sugar and extra calories of hot chocolate.

So, I justified to myself that if I took up decaf, I could still have the "comfort" without the side effects. I know there's a bit of caffeine (2-3 percent) but now, 12 months later, I find that it's really working out. I can have a cup here or there and my body doesn't "need" the next one. It's probably better on my body if I didn't drink it at all, but somethings you just have to give in to B-).

Anyway, my current drink of choice is a Grande Decaf Americano. What's your guilty pleasure?
