LineRate-lockupWe have been having a lot of fun here at LineRate launching our product at 2013 Node Summit and spreading the word about the LineRate free tier, downloadable from Linerate.f5.com. The free tier is rate limited but it is specifically designed for three main goals: usability, training and testing. First, to get your entire development team access to the product so they can learn it and use it to write the code they need. Second, to train your operations team on how to use the product and get comfortable with running it in production.  Finally, to run tests on the code to make sure it works before promoting it to the next tier, whether that’s stage or prod.

We have a great documentation site at docs.lineratesystems.com but I thought I’d put up a video series to help you get going faster.  I’ve created five videos to get you going: download and import the software, configure and license LineRate, create your first proxy, create your first program and an overview of the documentation site.  I have tried to keep things to one minute, but with the first proxy video it took a bit over two minutes, sorry about that!

1) LineRate Download and Import into a VM – In this one minute video I show how to download and import LineRate into your VM.

2) LineRate Configuration and License – In this one minute video I show how to add an IP address, how to add a route and then how to phone home to get a free license.

3) LineRate Configuration of your first Proxy – This video runs a little over two minutes, but I show how to use the graphical user interface (GUI) to put LineRate in front of your application servers and setup a virtual IP address.

4) LineRate Programming your first Application – This one minute video shows how to use the script editor to install and run your first Node.js based program.

5) LineRate Documentation – In this quick one minute video I give a brief overview tour of the docs.ineratesystems.com site so that you are comfortable researching further questions.

I hope you find these quick snippets useful as you get LineRate up-and-going.
