May 16th, 1998 was my first day here at F5. Here are some projects I've seen come (and some go): BIG/picture, BIG/analysis, bigconfig, SEE-IT, iControl (CORBA and then SOAP), BIG-IP, EDGE-FX, GlobalSite, 3-DNS (now Global Traffic Manager)Link Controller, FirePass, TrafficShield, WANJet, & WebAccelerator.

Since this is my 8th Anniversary, I thought I'd throw in some fun facts about the number 8:

  • Eight is considered a lucky number in Chinese culture because it sounds like the word "prosper"
  • The wheel of life has eight spokes.
  • In Scientology, there are 8 dynamics of life. Also in Scientology, the eighth dynamic represents the Infinity, or God.
  • Hanukkah is an eight day Jewish holiday that starts on the 25th day of December
  • In liquid measurement (U.S. customary units), there are 8 fluid ounces in a cup, 8 pints in a gallon, and 8 tablespoons in a gill.
  • There are 8 furlongs in a mile.
  • In cooking recipies, there are approximately 8 pinches to a teaspoon.
  • Timothy Leary identified a hierarchy of eight levels of consciousness.
  • Referring to the shape of the numeral, eight was represented in bingo slang, before political correctness, as 'One Fat Lady.' Eighty-eight was 'Two Fat Ladies'.
  • I-8 is the designation of the US interstate highway that runs from San Diego, California to Casa Grande, Arizona. - I took this one on many summer vacations from my hometown of Tucson, AZ to San Diego, CA.
  • There are eight vegetables in V8 juice.
  • The symbol for infinity looks like a fallen eight.
  • "Section 8" is common U.S. slang for "crazy", based on the U.S. military's Section 8 discharge for mentally unfit personnel.
  • 8 is one of the "Lost Numbers" on the television show, Lost, along with 4, 15, 16, 23, and 42.

I just realized that I've spent 2/9th my life working for F5! Too bad there's not an eight in that number as well...
