I saw a demonstration of a neat gizmo this week.  It's the Slingbox from a company called Sling Media.  It's a device you install in your home that allows you to access local programming or the contents of your Tivo from anywhere that you have Internet connectivity.

I'm not a TV junky so just watching normal local programming remotely doesn't appeal to me.   I could see wanting to keep up with special events like tapping into my Tivo to catch full coverage from each stage of the Tour de France that starts this weekend regardless of where I happen to be.  It could also be a good alternative to CNN or CNBC while attempting to go to sleep in Beijing!

The demo had roughly a 300kb/s stream running using Microsoft's codec being accessed over a WiFi network.  Quality was pretty decent as long as the image was not full screen.
