Email alerts using management interface

Hi all, i'd like to configure my Big-IP to send email alerts  using the management interface. So far I have noticed it uses one of the self-IP addresses. Can this be done or will I need to settle for using a self-IP address?

My concern is if I configure a default route out the management interface this would impact the routing of traffic globally on the device - the email recipients are on www.
you can configure static route for only email server via mgmt interface.

# b mgmt route x.x.x.x gateway y.y.y.y
x.x.x.x is email server
y.y.y.y is mgmt interface's gateway

and for earlier versions:

    tmsh create /sys management-route <mail-server> network x.x.x.x/x gateway x.x.x.x
    tmsh save /sys config
