Upgrade steps are similar for guests, host and non vcmp boxes. One thing is different. License can be reactivated on host only and guest inherit the license.

Upgrade steps can be found on askf5.com

You can not install new image on currently active boot location. You must use non-active boot location to install new software version

there are some views on it here: https://devcentral.f5.com/questions/software-upgrade-process-viprion-amp-vcmp-52171

and here: http://www.fransvandokkumburg.com/f5-how-to-upgrade-a-vcmp-guest/

the advise is first host then guests. there also is a limit between the difference in versions.

Thanks for the update. Can we install new hotfix to the directly bootable partition or do we need to install on the non active partition and reboot the applaiance from non active one

you can't install on the active partition, you always install in a non active one and boot into that one. gives you a great rollback path as an added bonus.
