Image Upgrade for Active/Standby from 10.2 to 11.2

Hi Everyone,

Recently, we upgrade 10.2 to 11.2 image to cut the story I did backup the UCS and SCF. After we have done upgrade on standby (active alone) and do re-activation on license, disable/disconnect the interfaces and issue a command on tmsh load sys config file xxxxx.scf (something like that) we encounter line error.

What we did is configure manually from the scratch, copy the existing config on active (10.2) device and paste on 11.2. Upgrade unit A and do the same thing us we did on standby then push the configuration after establishing network fail-over.

My question, is there a tools or third party software to copy the old (10.2) format of SCF to new format (11.2)?

Thanl you in advance,

Albert

  • Hi Albert,

I highly doubt that there are any tools to help with this problem. The feature differences from v10.2.x to v11.x.x are pretty big. I was at one time working on a tool that would use iControl as a bridge (since that is the one thing that they would have in common) to act as a bridge...consuming the configuration from v10 and putting it into v11, but haven't had much free time to continue working on it.

Chances are pretty good that you can fix the configuration with a few adjustments.

    I would suggest reading this:

LTM v11.1 Upgrade - Local Traffic Config Gone?

The problem (in some cases) is that several new profiles have been created (removed from the HTTP Profile and made into individual profiles). The Compression Profile and the WebAcceleration Profile.

This can cause issues when the device tries to read the "old" bigip.conf which will be stored in the /config/bigpipe/bigip.conf and cannot make heads or tails on what to do with what it due to Profile or iRule conflicts (reading your LTM Log can help you resolve most of the configuration issues and eventually get the config to load).

If you aren't getting any good leads from your logs then I would suggest opening up a case with F5 to get some assistance (they can modify the config file for you so that it will load properly).

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Michael,

Thanks for the information that you have shared, LTM v11.1 Upgrade - Local Traffic Config Gone ...... it gives more information on my part.

Yeah ... good thing that I have only 5 virtual IP's and 2 members on each pools. Recently, i read the basic information regarding /config/bigip and helps me a lot to understand what inside.

Since I am newbie and no hands-on experience on ADN it is very frustrating on my part. Last week got grasp on virtual editor "vi" and notepad+ which helps me a lot to check and verify configuration line by line.

    Tnx
