Redundancy

Hello

Can please someone explain to me the difference between failover trigger and failover detection? I thought when a failover trigger event occurs then that has to be detected (either by hardware and/or network failover) and finally failover to standby unit take place. But I'm not sure if I am right.

  • Can please someone explain to me the difference between failover trigger and failover detection?where did you see them (e.g. document, knowledge base, etc)?
  • It was in the web based training videos in the F5 university - module 11.i understand they are just topics.

for failover trigger, there are events which are monitored as high availability features including specific processes, vlan functionality, switch board. when failure happens, pre-defined action will take place such as reboot, failover.

about failover detection, standby unit will assume active role when it detects active unit is not available. this is done using hardware or network failover.
