Sorry. ActiveX control is required to view this page.

Hello,

I am having problems logging onto my VPN network through Firepass using F5 software via IE8 and Mozilla. I receive the following message:

Status: Failed

Sorry. ActiveX control is required to view this page

I have attempted to modify my security settings to allow for ActiveX content, disabled pop-up blockers, ensured that all F5 add-ons are enabled, and confirmed that I have local administrator access.

I also have F5 Fire Pass Components Troubleshooting software. When I ran a diagnostic on my system, I received the following results under "INSTALLATION":

SSL VPN Driver is not installed

IP Filter Driver is not installed

RAS check failed

Host DLL registration failed

VPN Dialer DLL registration failed

urxhost.dll installed

urxdialer.dll not installed

I've successfully accessed my VPN network before, although it was a few months ago. I'm wondering if I unwittingly changed settings on my browser that are now disallowing access.

Help?

  • What has your IT department stated? Is your user agent string changing, you can have the firepass send an email everytime someone tries to open a link when the UAS changes.

Also, are you using the vanilla version of IE or Firefox with IE tabs?
  • My IT department's at a bit of a loss as to how to direct me further.

I'm sorry, not too technologically savvy, so I'm not quite sure how to check whether my user agent string is changing. How could I set Firepass up to send an e-mail when the UAS changes?

I'm currently using Internet Explorer 8 (Version: 8.0.6001.18702).
  • If there's a valid SMTP server setup in "Device Management : Configuration : SMTP Server" and the admin email setup is defined in "Device Management : Configuration : Admin E-Mail" then I think it should send alerts to UAS changes. Unfortunately they don't seem to get stored on any of the logs on the FirePass itself.

Here's an example of an alert which I received yesterday from one of our boxes -

    Subject: FirePass 4100 Security Alert!

Possible intrusion attempt detected against account jabrahams from source IP address 82.68.166.xxx for URI=[/vdesk/intranets/provision.php3?res_group=Sales&res_name=OWA](USER-AGENT changed.[Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729)->Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729)]. )

Don't forget that IE8 has the compatability setting, where it can change what it declares the browser to be, could that be the cause of your problem?

  • Very interesting, I'm not receiving e-mail alerts from Firepass. My IT department is at a loss and has suggested that I have my hard drive re-imaged, but I'd prefer not to take such a drastic measure to have this problem resolved.

Interesting point about the compatibility setting, but I don't have that active. I also tried downgrading to Internet Explorer 7, but I was still unsuccessful.

On a positive note, I was able to bypass the "Sorry. ActiveX control is required to view this page." message by accessing Firepass through a different server, thereby receiving an information bar prompt that asks whether or not I want to install the applicable driver, but, upon accepting the installation, I advance to another box stuck at "Loading 0%". Unsure how to proceed at this point.
  • Reimaging the client OS does seem fairly drastic for an SSL VPN connection issue. If you want a faster, official response, you might try asking your IT group to open a support case with F5 Support. F5 Support could work with you and your Firepass administrator to troubleshoot the issue from the client and Firepass perspective.

  • Just a quick question for you sdillon. What version of Firepass are you using and are you attempting to launch a Network Access tunnel?
