Upgrade from 9.4 to 10

 

We just received some model 1600 BigIP with 9.4 code on them.

 

I added the latest hotfix for 9.4 and thought I was ready to go but then I see the latest and greatest code is now version 10.

 

How is version 10?

 

Do I want to upgrade to it or should I wait until it proves itself?

  • Hi Ten,

     

     

    9.4.8 with the latest HF is generally more stable at present but at some point in the future you'll need to move to version 10. Is there a business need to move to version 10.x or any specific fixes or features that you're looking at?

     

     

    If not, I'd stick with 9.4.8 for now (although this is just my advice and I'm not sure everyone else would agree!)
  • In addition to Chris' comments:

     

     

    We've started recommending 10.1.0 with the latest hotfix for customers' production networks (either for new implementations or upgrades). 9.x will be out of full support in March 2011, so it would be good to start planning a move to 10.x sometime soon. 9.4.8 is a good stable release, but not something you can stick with for too much longer.

    I am new with Big-IP.

     

     

    I am having problem with upgrading Big-IP 1600 from v9.4.8 to v.10.2. It is customer's requirement to upgrade to latest version. Now I end up with Big-IP not working. The management port, console port, and LCD Panel are not working. Screen shows only "F5 Network Incorporate". Status LED has blinking yellow, and Alert LED is red.

     

     

    Is there anyway that I can reverse it back to factory default? Please help me.

  • If you get a serial cable connection direct to the unit, what output do you get from the console when the unit boots? Do you get into the CLI prompt or does the device not boot this far? How far does it boot?

     

     

    Sounds like you may need to reinstall the software again using the USB or PXE (network boot) method to get things going again. But check the console first!

    I'd first try what Chris (cspillane) suggests above and get a console session to the appliance.
