broadcast/multicast forwarding dilemma

With the utlimate end of providing DHCP relay VS on a v10.2 box, I enabled forwarding of broadcast/multicast on a LTM using this command:

b db tm.allowmulticastl2destinationtraffic { enable }

This interacts poorly with Microsoft Network Load-Balancing (NLB) because that configuration uses multicast for clustering.

I am wondering if anyone has a good iRule suggestion that would Allow forwarding of DHCP broadcast messages but would Disallow NLB traffic?

  • LTM now supports DHCP relay in 11.1:

    Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol Relay

    In this release, the BIG-IP system introduces the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Relay virtual server, providing the ability to proxy DHCP requests between VLANs.
