Does anyone have a irule that would relay a DHCP request to a server on a different subnet? Running version 10

Or is it possible?

Thanks

  • To clarify this a little bit more. What is going on is if a machine boots up looking for a DHCP IP, the server is on a different subnet so what I'm wanting to do basically is once the F5 see's the broadcast on port udp 67 it would just forward it to the back end server.

  • Hi Phil,

I don't think this is possible currently. There has been some internal movement with it though. You could open a case with F5 Support to get more info on ID 248083.

Here's the most recent thread I could find on it:

  • Perhaps I am making a bad assumption, but you could configure that on your Cisco equipment (assuming you utilize Cisco), until the BIG-IP is given that ability.

It is called a Cisco DHCP Relay Agent.

  • LTM now supports DHCP relay in 11.1:

    Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol Relay

In this release, the BIG-IP system introduces the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Relay virtual server, providing the ability to proxy DHCP requests between VLANs.
