Understanding F5 LTM in front of a Citrix XenApp

Hi everybody,

I have some doubts after reading quickly the whitepapers and deployment guides of APM and LTM with XenApp.

Doubts:

1.- Is Big IP LTM able to load balance ICA traffic connections across a pool of XenApp Application servers or this function is performed by Citrix XML Brokers Service?

As I understand Big IP LTM only load balances connections to Web Interface and XML Brokers.

2.- Can Big IP LTM act as a proxy server for ICA traffic connections? I don't want clients to establish direct connections to the XenApp Application servers.

Thanks very much in advance.

Kind regards,

Roumen

    Hi everybody,

No, ICA traffic is being load-balanced by the Zone Data Collector(and is relayed to the client via Web Interface/XML Broker combo.

As I understand Big IP LTM only load balances connections to Web Interface and XML Brokers.

    Correct.

2.- Can Big IP LTM act as a proxy server for ICA traffic connections? I don't want clients to establish direct connections to the XenApp Application servers.

Secure ICA Proxy is the function of the APM module. LTM will only load-balance connections to Web Interface and XML Brokers, APM will act as a proxy/pre-authentication mechanism for ICA traffic.

    Thanks very much in advance.

    Kind regards,
