Citrix web interface and APM

Hi!

We're in the process of replacing some old citrix gateways, and it would be nice to be able to use APM for our citrix farms since we already have APM deployed for other applications.

I have been looking at the citrix deployment guide which talks about the ability to replace the citrix web interface servers.

Talking to our citrix team, they had a few requirements, that I'm wondering if it's possible to solve with APM.

I haven't worked much with citrix products, but from what I could gather, this is the functionality they would like to have:

* Present applications from multiple farms in a single interface.

We have multiple farms with different applications. We would like to have "one view" when the user logs on that has all application icons that user can run.

* Apply some sort of filtering rules so that certain application icons are not presented to the user.

Basically we would like to have different entry points to our farms, say External and Internal.

If user A connects to the internal entry point he/she would see all apps. If the user connects to the external entry point, only a limited set of applications are presented.

* Append a string to the client's computer name that's displayed in the citrix management tool.

If I've understood our citrix people correct, they would like to use the client's computer name to indicate wether the connection is from an external source.

Is it possible to do this, or some of it, with APM?

Thanks!

/Niklas

  • Niklas,

Yes, we can certainly do it. What type of clients are accessing these farms? Are they all browser-based, or are they mobile clients as well?

Absolutely - this is all about leveraging SmartAccess filters, and APM fully supports that today.

Absolutely, you can insert/change any name in the headers.

  • Great. Thanks for the info!

Currently it's only browser-based, but pads of all kinds are coming strong.

Is it possible to use SmartAccess filters with APM without replacing citrix web interface?

Yes, definitely. Please follow this guide: http://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-ip_apm/manuals/product/apm-citrix-integration-11-3-0/2.htmlconceptid
  • Question. Does the use of the SmartAccess filters with APM require us to also have the Citrix Universal Access Licenses? It seems that you can use SmartAccess on NetScaler without the UAL's. Thanks in advance.
