Duplicate Traffic to Two Real Servers

Does anyone know of a means in 9.x iRules to take incoming traffic to a virtual server and have the traffic redirected to real servers in parallel? I am dealing with a situation where a couple pieces of equipment behind my LTM do not have the ability to write to two SNMP trap desinations in parallel

I was contemplating the idea of creating a virtual server to listen on UDP/162 (snmp trap). The theory would be that the LTM would be the detination for all real server SNMP traps and then, by means of an iRule, all incoming traffic would be relayed to the two "real" SNMP trap destinations. I can't find anything immediately off-hand in the iRules forums or command set that supports this functionality. There is a similar post found at http://devcentral.f5.com/Default.aspx?tabid=28&view=topic&forumid=16&postid=8759

which seems to indicate that this functionality is not currently supported in iRules.

Thx for any feedback in either confirming the "no can do" answer or suggesting an alternate means to achieve this functionality.

  • If you are not expecting both servers to respond to the traffic (which with SNMP traps should be OK), then you can use clone pools to send a copy of the traffic that the "normal" pool gets to another pool.

Unfortunately there appears to be zero documentation on the v9 version of this on tech.f5.com, but this link Click here shows the v4 version docs, and there's not a whole lot of difference in v9 that I've seen.

  • Clone pool functionality now exists under advanded view options under each virtual server. I found exactly what I am looking for @ this point so thank much for the feedback.

  • Sorry to resurrect an old discussion....

Are there any limitations to the clone pool? i.e. in my situation i need to snat to different snmp servers in distant networks via l3 routing.
