Load balance issue with proxy servers

I would like to know what should I do to implement sticky persistence with F5, where all my clients are connected through proxy servers to my F5/Web servers.

I had tried to enable X-Forwarded-For setting and set "Source Address Persistence". But all (most) requests still go to one server where the other with very minimum hits.

Did I miss anything else?

I read in this forum about writing IRules but I am totally lost with its syntax. Is there any example that I could refer to?

Thanks in advance.

  • hi,

maybe you can try destination address affinity persistence instead or source address.

    regards,
  • I tried that too and most requests still go to one server.

Is that mean I can't have load balance AND session persistance together with F5 when connections are coming from proxy servers? It has to be either one. Which mean F5 investment is totally a waste?

Hopefully F5 technical support out there could help my situation.

Couldn't you use something like cookie persistence? Note: This is a link to the user's guide, and requires a login for tech.f5.com - Click here

  • Have you enabled Least sessions LB with your persistence method?
