Protocol detection?

Hi All

so far as I know, in F5 LTM, we have HTTP, RTSP profiles, so that, for example, if I have HTTP transacton, the HTTP togther with the TCP traffics from one src to another src will be followed and sent to the same destination. am I correct?

I would like to know is F5 capable to apply on the same logic for WTP/WSP/MMSE/HTTPS or particular TCP traffics on particular ports?

if yes, what is the best way to detech the above protocol as I beleived currently, we only have HTTP and RTSP profiles.

  • Are you trying to detect the protocols because you want to make sure they are , from a security perspective, the correct protocols according to a standard?

Since the BIG-IP can see all of the traffic that is going across the wire, there is no reason you couldn't build in logic to ensure the protocols were what you expected to see. You would, however, need to formulate your own logic for what determines positively if traffic A matches protocol A, and traffic B matches protocol B, etc.

Once you had the things you needed to search for and identify, we may be able to help you write the specific iRules commands.
