"An error occured attempting to install iRuler"

My apologies if this has been posted somewhere else already, but I did a quick search and didn't find anything.

Anyways, I get an error when I try installing iRuler.

Launching Application.

URLDownloadToCacheFile failed with HRESULT '-2146697211'

Error: An error occurred trying to download 'http://devcentral.f5.com/Apps/iRuler/iRuler.application'.

-------------------------

To see if the above link the error occurred in was actually valid, I tried going directly to: http://devcentral.f5.com/Apps/iRuler/iRuler.application

It downloaded the application fine, but gave me the following message when it tried running it:

"Cannot download the application. The application is missing required files. Contact application vendor for assistance."

The errors seemed to be related to not finding specific files on my own machine, which I assume would be created by the iRulerSetup.exe

ERROR SUMMARY

Below is a summary of the errors, details of these errors are listed later in the log.

* Activation of C:\...\iRuler.application resulted in exception. Following failure messages were detected:

+ Downloading file:///.../iRuler_0_9_1_5/iRuler.exe.manifest did not succeed.

+ Could not find a part of the path '...\iRuler_0_9_1_5\iRuler.exe.manifest'.

+ Could not find a part of the path '...\iRuler_0_9_1_5\iRuler.exe.manifest'.

+ Could not find a part of the path '...\iRuler_0_9_1_5\iRuler.exe.manifest'.

Running on Windows XP Professional Edition.

I have .NET installed (and the log file above shows that the .NET check works).

I made sure it wasn't anything silly like McAfee getting in the way by disabling it, but still no luck.

Let me know if any more information would be helpful in identifying the problem.

Thanks.

  • We've been having lots of issues with the ClickOnce installer so I'm going to be scratching that update process. Here's a link to a beta standalone installer. Let me know if this works for you.
