F5 Dropping UDP packets

When we load more than 50 sessions from our loader on BC-1 (209.67.159.60) to any oStreamer connected through F-5 (209.67.159.52) , the F-5 seems to drop all UDP packets, hence our streamer does not get RTCP feedback from the clients running from the loader and terminates the clients after default RTCP timeout of 30 seconds.

When we stream just 1 session we do not see this issue.

When we stream from 1 handset we do not see this issue.

When we stream 250 sessions the issue becomes worse and streams start terminating faster.

When we bypass the F-5 , assign a public IP directly to streamer and load 250 sessions from loader no issue.

So we know for sure that the external interface of F-5 is definitely dropping the packets.

Did you take a tcpdump on the front and back sides simultaneously to verify what is happening for certain at the LTM?

Are you running 9.4.2 HF2 or earlier. If so you need HF3 asap (prefer 9.4.5) to fix several UDP session bugs and a really nasty one where the LTM never releases UDP sessions and eventually you run out of resources.

Try to a "b conn" with grep constantly as the problem arises and see what the session count looks for UDP sessions. Be sure to log all this.

If not any of the above, open a case as previously noted.

  • Ooops, correction. I meant to say if you are running 9.4.3HF2 or earlier then you need HF3 asap but I prefer 9.4.5 as 9.4.4 and HF4 for 9.4.3 fix tcp/udp issues.

  • what tcp (or other) critical problems are documented on 9.4.3 HF2?
