Use of Big-IP for outgoing load balancing...

Hi,

I have a failover pair of F5 Big IP HA Load Balancer 4.5.10's.

Is it possible to use these for outgoing load balancing across

two separate T1 lines? I need nothing on the incoming side in therms of load balancing. Any giudance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

  • Hello John,

You can create a wildcard virtual server defined on any destination IP address (0.0.0.0 / mask 0.0.0.0) on port 0. The VIP would typically point to a pool of the two routers for the two links. This is described in the 4.5.x reference guide's virtual server section:

The standard BIG-IP license doesn't have all of the advantages of the Link Controller license like cost based link selection, but it will get the job done. If you want more info on the differences/advantages of the LC, you can check with an F5 salesperson.

  • Thanks much Hoolio. Will this allow any port to pass through? I'll talk to sales. Is there an easy way to get hold of them w/out long telephony waits?
