SAP & IE issues when using F5

hi guys,

Hopefully someone on this forum may be able to help me out with an issue I'm seeing as I'm tearing my hair out.

We have a new SAP deployment sitting behind a pair of Big-IP's. I've configured up all the usual things - nodes, monitors, appropriate profiles, pools & VS's so that when I go to the URL I get to the load balanced front end servers for the main web page.

From here, things go a bit strange - if I use Firefox, I can click on a link (useradmin for example) and have a new web page open with spce for my login credentials. I enter them & get redirected to the correct SAP module with no problem.

If however I use IE I can never get past the login page. I enter my details & the simply refreshes back to the login page - I cannot get to the backend when using IE through the Big-IP.

If however I go direct to each of the load balanced servers - I get to the login page, I enter my details & it all works...

Clearly the load balancing is working or Firefox would fail. And clearly the servers are doing what they are supposed to with IE directly or that part would also fail. For the life of me though I can't figure out why IE will not work through the F5's...

Any ideas or comment ???

thnaks for reading & I appreciate any help.

  • I had a similar problem with WebLogic once, and it turned out to be that there was a large number of cookies coming back from the app (actually due to a problem with an iRule), and the LTM's cookie for persistence was pushing the first app cookie off the stack, so it never maintained the session. Don't know if you're even using cookie persistence or iRules though, so this may be something else completely, but I thought I'd throw it out there...
