Can't ping new self-ip

Very strange...My HA Active/Standby peer communication currently takes place over the external vlan. I am moving this to a private vlan connected with a crossover. I created the new vlan and assigned an interface. Then I created a self ip on both units.

Before changing the HA Peer address, I tried to ping each unit from the other. On both units, I can ping the new self-ip, but can not ping the new peer self-ip. When I restarted the Sstandby, ping became successful. I want to resolve this problem without having to fail over and restart the remaining unit.

The routing table looks fine. I disabled/enabled the interface. arp entry says Incomplete, and ping returns Destination Host Unreachable. Am I required to reset the LTM in order to begin sending traffic on a new VLAN? That's the only solution I have at this point.
