One Armed and NAT on 6400

We currently run Big IP 1000s version running Big IP v4.5 in one armed mode serving a /24 public IP space.

We are in the midst of bringing up a 6400 running LTM v9 in NAT mode to serve a private /16 IP space.

Since we have lots of free interfaces and processing headroom I was pondering the idea of using the 6400 to do both. Is it possible to serve both modes simultaneously? My idea is to use partitions to separate the data for manageability sake.

Any comments/ideas are more than welcome.

  • Yes, so long as you use SNAT's where appropriate for the one-armed connections there's no issue with having both types of traffic. Although you can't use the same object (pool member, virtual ip, etc) in more than one partition, so you'll have to make sure that's not needed.
