GTM LB

Hi,

So this is what I have.

wideip.com --> wideip_pool ( at GMT)

wideip_pool --> site 1 ratio(1) / site 2ratio(1) with static persist.

site1 has 5 pool members

site 2 has 5 pool members.

Is there a way to setup the LB at GTM so that the ratio is 1:1 but dependent on the of active pool members at each site

so for ex if site 1 has 4 servers active and

site 2 has 2 servers active...

Then the LB between the sites would be 2:1 ?

i.e. eventual goal is to try and distribute the load as evenly as possible keeping in mind the LDNS from proxy sites.

Thanks,

  • 1:1 ratio might as well be round robin. Keep in mind that at the global layer, the GTM is handing out resolutions to LDNS servers, so if you have 5 LDNS resolutions, 3 would go to site 1 and 2 would go to site 2. Now, if 90% of your clients happen to be servered by the 3 LDNS servers that are pinned to site 1 (until TTL expires or your persistence record expires), then you won't be at a 50% distribution at all, or even close. If you want even distribution across both datacenters, you're probably better off putting all the virtuals from both datacenters in a single pool and using the least connections, packet rate, or kbps load balancing mechanism.
