Web analytics

Hi,

I'd like to know how to generate Web analytics (number of hits, files, pages, visits, sites, kbytes) with a Big-IP ASM 9.4.5 ?

In particular :

- Where are the default log files for such data ?

- Do I have to create some iRules to generate such log ?

- Can I use Sawmill for log analysis ?

- Do I have to use a specific log analyser ?

Thanks (and sorry to interfere).

Do you use Splunk at all? They released some very interesting F5-specific plugins for FP and ASM:

I have nothing against Splunk but I wish I could also export the logs to a different reporting tool (sawmill).

    Is it possible ?

  • You can use an iRule and statistics profile to generate the type of statistics you're looking for. You can send the events to a remote server or you could use SNMP to poll LTM for the metrics. You can search these forums and the iRule Codeshare for "stats profile" or "statistics profile" for details.

I'm not sure about how you can get data into Sawmill though. Does it poll for data or expect data to be pushed to it? If so, what format(s) does it support?

I just saw F5 in the list of supported log formats, but I imagine that they're just talking about the standard syslog messages. It looks flexible enough to accommodate whatever you want to throw at it.
