Timeouts on Dynamic IP's

Hi There,

I have a F5-BIG-LTM-1500-RS running 9.3 on them. We have been noticing something lately, we have 2 public domains being load balanced by 2 servers each.

www = VIP IP = Server 1 and Server 2

Same set up for both, it seems when we access the server through the f5 the pages do not load and there seems to intermittent timeouts or something. When I access the servers from there internal IP address, on a different NIC (Management), they seem to load normal. I see this with all our servers since I send anything Public through the f5.

I also noticed that there seems to be a high amount of RAM being utilized on the primary BIGIP LTM, I noticed it on the LCD and also in the UNIX TOP as well. I suspect that there is a RAM Leak and it's affecting the f5 and causing intermittent timeouts.

Any thoughts, thanks for reading.

  • There are tons of items in my mind that could be causing this. I think your best bet is contact F5 support to get a pulse on your settings to the vips and profiles you may have set up.

  • I think it's a Memory Leak issue, I see a gradual increase in Memory to TMM Service. For now I think I should either bounce the box or either change the Memory Restart Percent. It's pretty high right now. If I changed this to 60% would it just flush the memory and start over. Or is this not recommended.
  • As Citizen_elah suggested, you should open a case with F5 Support to troubleshoot the memory leak. Rebooting the unit either manually or automatically via the memory restart setting is just going to work around the problem temporarily. Chances are, it will be a known issue in the 9.3 version you're running.

  • I ran a /usr/bin/bigstart restart tmm on the F5 and brought the Memory on the TMM back down to normal, this f5 has been in production and been up for 162 days and it seems that it has a small gradual increase looking at the past month. Very small increments, for now I wrote a crontab that will run the /usr/bin/bigstart restart tmm every 4 months.

Is there a known Memory leak issue with ver. 9.3, I will contact support but thought I ask. Thanks.
