LTM not passing SNMP through

Unfortunately I have to allow other departments to pass SNMP through my 9.4.5 LTMs to their servers for monitoring.

SNMP, just doesn't get passed consistently. It's an intermittent issue that has been driving me nuts.

I've done packet sniffing and tcpdumps on both sides of the LTM and it looks like the same data on both sides, but when I remove the LTM completly, SNMP works flawlessly. Put it back in and I may have a 5% success rate.

Does anyone have any ideas? Support just tells me that they see the same data enter and exit so it's not the LTM.

Thanks,

Ken

  • Hi Ken,

Is the servers pointing to the F5 as thier gateway?

  • If the traffic is hitting the VIP but failing, I think the clients have a route through LTM for the SNMP traffic.

If only 5% of the SNMP traffic is being parsed successfully through LTM, I'd think capturing a failure in a tcpdump should be relatively easy.

Are you saying that the trace on the client VLAN and the server VLAN for a failure shows the same data being received and sent by LTM?

What are the symptoms of a failure? Does the SNMP server receive the packet(s), but fail in parsing them? Or does the server not get the packets at all?

    Thanks,
