Using a domain name instead of IP address

My organization use a LTM 6400 to balance users accessing a pool of Web Servers. Users connect via a IP address.

There is a planned re-configuration and mgmt would like to know if it is possible to configure the LTM so that users can connect to a server domain name instead of the IP address.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • As long as the clients can resolve the hostname to the virtual server IP address (or an IP address that some other network device translates to the virtual server IP address), it should work fine. LTM doesn't by default do anything with the HTTP host header. So this change on the client side shouldn't have any impact on the load balancing.

Or have I missed something in your scenario? Do you have a concern that this wouldn't work?

    Thanks,
