Link Controller - DNS integration

Hello guys,

I know it is a basic question but I hope you could support by giving me any guidance to perform my fisrt installation of a BIG-IP.

There is a client that does not have a load balancer. Indeed, he has just one ISP whose DNS manages the zone of the domain. A Link Controller will be deployed to manage inbound and outbound connections through three ISPs (the current one + two new ISPs). The DNSs of the new ISPs (2) do not have any zone regarding to the domain. Please, could you suf=ggest me any process for this deployment.

Must I configure the new ISPs DNS with the current zone before modifying it in order to include the subdomain which will be managed by the Link Controller?

What about considering a rollback? I mean, what proccess I must follow in order to smoothly include the new LC in the DNS hierarchy, meanwhile considering some steps to perform any rollback to the original environment in case of a failure?

Hope you could understand my questions

Thanks in advance

Regards

Jorge

  • not sure if i fully understand your question, but you don't have to configure DNS at or for the extra ISPs. you just need one DNS setup (at yourself, one of the three ISPs or even another provider) that points a certain (sub)domain to the link contoller so it can handle it. the link controller will then give back the IP you want it to give back.

rollback depends on your deployment scenario, if you just add a subdomain to your current domain and test with that then rollback is quite easy, just don't use that subdomain anymore. with DNS it is important to configure the TTL (time to live) so entries don't get cached too long. in this case i would put it quite low (i.e. minutes) to make sure that entries time out fast from cache in case you made an error.
