Configure AOM IP address on new 2000/4000 platforms

Hello,

 

It appears to me that the only way the IP address can be configured for the AOM is via the console cable on the new hardware platforms.

 

Is there anyway this can be done remotely (i.e. ssh from TMOS or icontrol)? I can't find any reference to it so assume not, but just thought I'd ask. As we're looking to simplify deployment of new devices, having to connect a terminal server, even temporarily to set the AOM IP is a bit of a pain (bearing in mind the management IP is already configured in our case) so it would be great if there was an alternative method we could use.

    Hi Ben,

     

    Maybe other people have some hacks, I've quickly checked on a 4000 and it doesn't seem to be any other way. Since the AOM runs separately from TMOS, I believe this separation is necessary. Otherwise, if they would interfere, when one goes down, it can bring down the other. Also, I think the logic with the IP address being set only from serial console is that these units must have an administrator configuring them for the first time anyway. When the unit comes, you need to change its management IP address from the default one. So, when the admin performs that action, they should also configure the IP for the AOM (I'm guessing that's the reasoning behind all this).

    yes, that's what I suspected unfortunately, thanks for the answers. I can see that's it's a separate unit but other OOB systems can be programmed by the O/S (i.e. HP ILO) so it would be useful functionality.

     

    In our case, our supplier will program the mgmt IP via the LCD before shipping the units so we could get on the network without having to have someone in the physical location and were hoping to do away with a TS being a requirement but it seems it will be.

    such a shame F5 made this change, access to aom from the normal cli was a good thing.
