Health monitor sees nodes as down

I'm using an iApp for Citrix XenApp and it automatically created some pools and their monitors for “Citrix_http_xmlb_monitor” and “Citrix_http_webui_monitor”. These monitors use get and send strings etc.

On the “Citrix_http_webui_monitor” it was looking for a certain string and found it on only one of the nodes, which is correct, but I need the other nodes to be up (green, not red triangles) so I unchecked strict updates on the properties of the iApp and removed the provided citrix monitor and just inserted http and icmp and all is good. I'm happy as long as th emonitor can ping and access http on the pool members.

With the other monitor though, the “Citrix_http_xmlb_monitor” I removed th edefault provided citrix monitor and replaced it with http and icmp as well. This time though the I'm having a problem with http only, the pool still marks a few nodes as down (red triangle) but th enode its self is (green circle). All these nodes are Windows 2000 Servers that are marked as down. The other servers in thei pool are Windows 2003 or 2008 and are fine.

Here are my questions:

  1. Does F5 have a problem monitoring Windows 2000 servers on http?

  2. Do pools only pass traffic on what is being monitored on that pool? So if I have that pool marking those nodes down via http, will it still pass http traffic on those nodes if I remove http from the monitor and just use icmp which it sees all of them as up?

  3. If I change the settings in the iApp (reconfigure) does it make the changes automatically on the monitors etc?

Thanks.

default http monitor may not work in all cases.

sol3224: HTTP health checks may fail even though the node is responding correctly
