F5 LTM - Layer 7 Load Balancing

Is the F5 capable of Layer 7 Load Balancing?

  • Yes! Many things are out of the box with policies, but just about anything can be accomplished with iRules. If you have a more specific example of what you are trying to do, we can provide a more specific answer.

  • I' trying to setup exchange 2013 with Layer 7 functionality. There are a lot of articles on this and another vendor supports this. I was just wondering if F5 supports it.

Don't forget to look into iApps for provisioning Exchange onto the F5 platform. We can do many things for Exchange in terms of performance, high availability, etc.

We have tried the iAPP template 1.3.0, but that is not Layer 7. Does version 1.4.0rc2 support Layer 7 Load Balancing? I don't want to knock out a pool member completed if it fails a check for a particular process.

Theres nothing to stop you from using the 1.4.0rc2 iApp against a different VIP with the same back-end pool members i.e. Exchange and testing it that way?
