Upgrade 10.1.0 to 11.x fails, configuration not loaded

I try to upgrade a BIG-IP 3900 running version 10.1.0 to any version 11.x.

Configuration includes active/standby HA using two route domains and two additional partitions.

Upgrade to 10.2.4 including latest HF was successfully applied. Domains, partitions and certificates still exist.

But the next step to 11.0.0 fails. Tried 11.2.1 and 11.4.1 too. Same failure.

Configuration utility reports 'The configuration has not yet loaded. If this message persists, it may indicate a configuration problem.'.

I found missing config files, e.g. certificates (*.crt) in directory /config/filestore/.file_object_upgrade_staging.

Now I'm wondering which part of the configuration prevents a successful upgrade.

  • what error do you get when running this command?

     /usr/libexec/bigpipe daol

if there is any error, manually edit configuration file in /config/bigpipe and then re-run the command again.

  • output of bigpipe command:

    .

    .

    Error message:

    Loading the configuration ...

BIGpipe HA group pool creation error:

    010712a5:3: Ha_group BigIP-HA-Groups unknown pool Second-Gateway.

I found the definition of pool Second-Gateway under partition /Second.

HA group definition is written to partition /Common.

System is right. Pool Second-Gateway could not be found in partition /Common.

For the first step pools were removed from ha group definition. Now the configuration was loaded completely.

Thanks a lot for your advice.
