Unable to delete Self IP for a stand alone BigIP

We have a stand alone BigIP 11.6.0 VE we are trying to delete the self IP for the external VLAN, but we are getting error: Cannot delete IP (10.254.108.75) because it is used by a system unicast address. I checked the DEVCENTRAL and I can see that was an issue only in case you have mirroring and HA but it is not the case with us.

  • Make sure that any "Failover Unicast Configuration" items that reference that IP are removed from Device Management>Devices>Self Device>Device Connectivity>Failover Network

Check network failover and config-sync, too.

If you have CLI access to the F5, the following tmsh command will show you all tmsh config references to the self-IP in question:

    list one-line | grep (ip-address)

  • Most likely network failover config as Eric pointed out. A standalone unit may still contain HA config especially if the setup utility was used.

  • Thank you all the failover unicast configuration is there and the addresses are defined, when I reomved the IP it can be easily removed.
