APM webtop portal page customization: dynamic image rewrite

I am using APM 11.4+ and trying to figure out how to add an employee picture to the portal page.

I have already added the employee name using a session variable form an AD query under Access Policy > Customization > Localization > Customization settings > Webtops > Webtop name > Full Webtop Settings with a %[mcget session.logon.last.username] .

We have an internal server with the images that are based on the username so it would be relatively easy to map if there was a rewritable solution since the server is not accessible externally. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

  • Try performing advanced customization of the Web top templates to include an image link back to the VS that hosts the access policy and then load balance that URL to the backend.

  • It looks like we are not going to go in this direction as management wants to have the same UX for mobile as desktop and the pictures would be too much of a distraction for the mobile devices. Thank you for your input.

  • well, this was a great question since we have just received a similar requirement.. The variation.

An employee may be working for one of our 16 companies. The portal is a Human Resource Portal and they want the webtop logo to reflect the company that the employee works under and not the umbrella logo. the content of the webtop will vary depending on the company.

So the new option for "AD Group Resource Assign" looks like a very good fit. It will allow me to select the content of the webtop.. and it includes the webtop itself..

So an approach was to create 16 different webtops, one for each company. But, other than the logo, the webtop definition is actually (and should be) exactly the same for all variants.

So can the image be selected through advanced customization by providing a variable that will indicate the image file or as part of the image filename?

    Thanks so much!!!!
