Source interface for DNS querries

Hi,

We have BIG-IP 11.6 system with few routing domains. We also have configured few DNS servers. Problem is that sometimes source address for DNS querry is MGMT interface and sometimes some od the self IP's.

Is it possible to configure source interface for DNS querries? It can be management or any self IP, just needs to be always same.

  • Hey Mate,

Unlike SNMP and Syslog, the source DNS address cannot be set. However, you can overcome this by ensuring you have a more specific route to the DNS server(s) in the management routing table (a /32 if need be). That will the management interface (and source address) will always be used, not a TMM interface and self IP.

  • Hi,

thanks for Reply. How can I put static route for MGMT?

I have few default routes (each in separate routing domain) and BIG-IP for DNS querry (we have configured few DNS servers) is using sometimes one interface (and routing domain), sometimes other. So this is normal situation?

  • Is it possible to use interface in some non-default route domain as source for DNS queries?

I need this because Management interface doesn't have Internet access, but F5 has one interface (in route domain 10) directly accessible from Internet.
