F5 marks Exchange 2013 outlook anywhere services unavailable

Currently 4 Exchange 2013 servers are load balanced using F5 LTM 11.4. The advanced health monitoring is enabled.

We are facing a peculiar issue wherein OA(outlook anywhere) pool in F5 marks all the Exchange servers unavailable to service the OA request (ie. the red dot appears) . None of the users could connect using outlook at this point. other services like OWA, autodiscovery and activesync are working fine without any issues. This issue gets fixed automatically after 15 mins. There are not logs in exchange events to suggest any issues. The F5 logs only shows that the servers are disconnected at that point of time

Please help me with any possible solutions.

  • it will be quite hard to now determine what happened back then. if this is a recurring issue i would focus on making sure you collect the needed information next time. so make sure you can run the command the health monitor runs to check if the output is correct. be able to capture the traffic so you can check later on what exactly was send / received.
