HTTP Pool Members Off Line even though servers are available

I have created a pool with 2 members both members are on line, and if I browse directly to them I return http content

If I open an SSH session to the F5 and then ping the two pool members they return sub 1ms

responses. Both nodes can ping the F5 also with sub 1ms responses

There are no firewalls between the F5 and the Nodes

The addresses are as follows

F5 Self IP: 10.85.177.15/255.255.252.0

Node 1: 10.85.178.1/255.255.252.0

Node 2: 10.85.178.2/255.255.252.0

I have set health check to http

Both Pool Members are marked as offline

I have another pool with a single node as follows

F5 Self IP: 10.85.177.15/255.255.252.0

Node 1: 10.85.177.131/255.255.252.0

The IIS and Health check setup is the same as in the failing pool. This pool is fine.

So why are the two nodes showing up as offline?

In addition I have just gone through the steps in

https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/3000/200/sol3224.html

and can confirm it is returning http 1.1

  • sorry but it is not quite clear what is and what isn't working for me.

    so assuming:

    • you use the same health monitor on all pools

    • you use the standard http health monitor (if not provide config)

    • the pool members are identical except for IP (so same port, probably 80?)

then there is either a difference on the server side or there is a bug :) you can try a packet capture on the monitor traffic and see if you can understand the difference from there.
