BIG-IP & Citrix Integration - How to prevent Citrix receiver from utilizing all monitors available.

We recently deployed Citrix with BIG-IP using iApps and have noticed that after users launch their desktop, the Citrix receiver will utilize all the monitors available and there is no way to minimize the screen. Ive attempted to resolve this issue by modifying the xlm file in Citrix without success. Is there a way to modify this from the BIG-IP?

There is probably an ICA parameter that controls this function - Citrix ICA parameters document

Once you determine the ICA parameter and appropriate value, you can have APM insert the required ICA parameters into the receiver ICA client file prior to being sent to the client. This is done by adding the ICA values to the relevant APM remote desktop profile within the custom parameters field. The latest Citrix iApp does have an option for adding ICA parameters for you if you are running 12.0 on your BIG-IPs. The option regarding adding ICA parameters within the iApp is only present in advanced configuration mode and while running 12.0.

Page 23 of the Citrix Deployment guide has additional information regarding this iApp option.

Sometimes the easiest way to determine the relevant ICA parameters is to look at the ICA file of a client that has the behavior you expect.

  • Hi Greg,

Thanks for your reply, it looks like this is what I am looking for. Is there an option for this on version 11.4 or will I have to upgrade to 12 for it to work.

    Thanks Oscar

The iApp does not offer the configuration option until v12, but the Citrix remote desktop profile does have the option to insert custom ICA parameters beginning in v11.4. You can turn off the iApps strictness and modify the remote desktop profile to include the required ICA parameters. The one caveat is the option to support ICA parameters on a per application basis was introduced in BIG-IP version 12, so you would have to upgrade to v12 if that is a requirement.
